Let Your Light Shine This Christmas and Throughout The New Year

If we place all our hope in material things and fairy tale visions of a perfect Christmas without Jesus, the Prince of Peace, we will be disappointed.
Luke's Gospel story has light in it. "The glory of the Lord shone around them," he writes, and we can only picture glory through light. "And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest."

This is the true meaning of Christmas--"Do not be afraid, for see I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people, to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior who is the Messiah, the Lord."
Think for a minute about the multitude of the heavenly host. How does it appear to you today?

Christ's birth is a mystery but God became a human being – He took on human flesh that night so He would live as one of us, be crucified and rise from the dead to save us from our sins.

Christ is the Light of the World! Is He your Light? Do you reflect His light and love in your life?

This is the true meaning of Christmas--that Christ came into the world for you and me! Pray for faith today. Pray that the Christ Child may come into your heart, transform it and give you a new life in Him. Pray for His Light to fill you with peace. Pray for His Light to have you reconcile yourself with estranged relatives, friends and neighbors.

Pray for this light to heal whatever ails you. Pray for His grace and strength to do whatever He has called you to do. Pray this week that you may bring Christ's light and love into other peoples' lives, that you may reconcile with those you have had differences, that you may help someone through a difficult period in their lives or that you may be a "non anxious" presence for those who worry constantly or are distressed.

Whatever your Christmas is like, Jesus understands it and you fill it with His presence. There is no joy so great that Christ cannot raise it to greater heights, there is no disappointment so bitter or sorry so profound that He cannot come into it with His love right now and the true hope He offers of eternal life and joy beyond all description. We are approaching Christmas Day, the celebration of the birth of hope and joy in the Savior who is come and no one and nothing can stop. We are seeing and experiencing a great light upon this Season--let it shine in your heart and free your passion to be a Christian in a very broken world.
Merry or not at Christmas we always get a present: Christ's presence where we really are, and our hope of being where He is.

There is hope and we can make a difference in our own lives as well as in others lives if we will just allow God to “fill” us with His presence so that we can become the light that shines in a world of darkness. God bless you today and this Christmas Season and throughout the New Year, I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer for Jennie

Heavenly Father, God Almighty, You dear God know what is in Jennie's heart. She is coming to You dearest Lord with a pure and trusting heart. You know her every need dear Lord, as well as every petition she has expressed to You. Please give her Your wisdom in every decision and guide her steps in the direction on the path that You Father God want her to take. Please let her know Your voice when You are talking to her so that she has peace with every decision she makes. Please protect our dearest daughter and prosper her in every way. In this I pray today in Jesus' name. Amen.

Beloved

1 Samuel 2:18-20, 26 (New International Version) 18 But Samuel was ministering before the LORD -a boy wearing a linen ephod. 19 Each year his mother made him a little robe and took it to him when she went up with her husband to offer the annual sacrifice. 20 Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, saying, "May the LORD give you children by this woman to take the place of the one she prayed for and gave to the LORD." Then they would go home.

Colossians 3:12-17 (New International Version) 12Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. 15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

I really like old movies. Especiall, the black and white ones from the ‘30’s and 40’s. Most every Christmas, and this year is no exception, I want to watch one of those movies by the name of The Bishop’s Wife. It first came out in 1947 and stars Loretta Young, David Niven, Cary Grant and Monty Wooly – just a bit of trivia for those of you who relate to this kind of thing or even know who these folks were.
The film is about an Episcopal bishop, his wife and an angel. It’s about how muddled life can become when we get off track. Specifically, the film is about this bishop named Henry who rose from a poor parish to become bishop, but somewhere along the way lost track of what’s important. He lost his compassion, his joy and his love for both the church and for his family. Henry became obsessed with the plans for a grand, new cathedral in the diocese, plans, which aren’t going that well as the movie begins.

The film opens with a stressed and frustrated Henry turning to God for guidance. You know the phrase – be careful what you pray for. Guidance, for Harry, came in the form of a good-natured, yet meddling angel played by Cary Grant. The angel does his work, and, as with most movies of this era, the ending is happy. Priorities are set straight, joy and compassion are restored and relationships are mended.
In the final scene, the bishop begins a Christmas Eve sermon at his former parish – a sermon penned by the angel:

“Tonight I want to tell you a story about an empty stocking. Once upon a midnight clear there was a child's cry. A blazing star hung over a stable and wise men came with birthday gifts. We haven't forgotten that night down the centuries. We celebrate it with stars on Christmas trees and the cry of bells and gifts - but especially with gifts. You give me a book. I give you a tie. Aunt Martha always wanted an orange squeezer and Uncle Henry could do with a new pipe. Oh, we forget nobody, adult or child. All the stockings are filled. All that is, except one. We have even forgotten to hang it up, a stocking for the child born in a manger. It's his birthday we're celebrating. Don’t let us ever forget that. Let's ask ourselves what He would wish for most. And then let each put in his or her share - loving kindness - warm hearts - and the stretched out hand of tolerance - all the shining gifts that make peace on earth”. (Excerpt from The Bishop's Wife Movie)

It is a good movie that encourages us to ask a good question. What would He, the child born in a manger, wish for most? What does Jesus want from us? This is a good question to ask and a good question just days before the wise men follow the star to present their gifts to this child. It’s a good question for us to ask ourselves as individuals, an essential question for us to ask ourselves as His church not just now, but at other times and often throughout the year.

What is it that Jesus would wish for most? The first part of the answer is the most important part of the answer. Jesus wants most for us to know that we are "God’s chosen, holy and beloved." Jesus wants most for us to know that we are God’s own and that God values and loves us. In essence, the first thing that Jesus wants most is to give us the gift of God’s love.

What a gift! The creator of the sun and the moon and all the stars, the creator of heaven and earth, loves us. We are God’s chosen, God’s holy and beloved. We need to be clear that being chosen, being holy and beloved in no way means that we are better than anyone else or that we’re more righteous than anyone else or that God’s love is reserved only for us. To put this in scriptural context, the first chapter of Colossians reminds us that in Christ "all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell and through him God was pleased to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven . . . (Col. 1:19)."

As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, [we are to] clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. [We are to] bear with one another . . . forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven us, so you also we must forgive. Above all, [we are to] clothe ourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony (3:12-14).

Nice words, wonderful ideals – compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, forgiveness and love – a stocking for the Christ child filled with loving kindness, warm hearts, out-stretched hands. Yet, are these just the ideals for sentimental movies? You can imagine, of course, that my answer is "no." These are ideals, yes, yet they are the very real promises of the hope and joy that come because we have done what Jesus wants most – to accept God’s enormous, life changing love that was given to us through that baby in a manger. That love can and does change our lives so that we become the human beings that God wants us to be.

We don’t, however grow into the se wonderful ideals, these clothes of compassion, kindness, etc. overnight and we don’t do it by ourselves. Remember, the boy Samuel. Imagine, again, like I did with the children. Imagine those robes hanging side by side getting a little bigger each year. Just like Samuel, we don’t grow into the clothes Jesus wants us to wear overnight. And, like Samuel, we don’t do it on our own.

We don’t experience the life changing love God shows us in Christ on our own. We learn about this love together. We begin to believe it together. We mature into its meaning for our lives together. And, we call that togetherness the church. It is together that we learn, "[l] let the word of Christ dwell in [us] richly." It is together that we "teach and admonish one another in [God’s] wisdom." It is together, "with gratitude in [our] hearts, that we "sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs to God" (Col 3:26). And, finally, it is only together that we have a prayer of being able "in word or deed, [to] do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."

We can commit ourselves, together, as God’s holy and beloved, as Christ’s church and a nation, to staying on track. We can commit to asking ourselves “what would Jesus want most?”

An empty stocking to be filled with loving kindness, warm hearts, tolerance – a new life in Christ clothed with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and patience. Will we be the same people, the same church, the same world when Christmas 2009 or the next or the next Christmas rolls by?

I think that Jesus wants the answer to be no and wants to hear the answer loud and clear in a thankful chorus from his chosen, his holy and beloved. Christ’s church and our nation can answer no – things won’t be the same because we commit to being the place where, above all else, the love of God unites our togetherness, where the love of Jesus dwells deeply in us and where the word of love is taught in everything, in all we say and do. God came as that little baby in the manager so that we, as God’s holy and beloved people, could lead the way showing the world that it can change, that it is possible to live from love and not fear. We can lead the way to becoming the human beings God wants most for us to be. We can lead the way when together we begin to take very seriously the fact that we are holy and beloved, that God values and loves us more than we can imagine, and when we begin to let that love dwell richly in us influencing everything we do.

All glory and thanks be to God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit now and forevermore I pray this day in Jesus’ name. Amen

Harold This One Is For You, Your Family, Your Son Chris, and The Business

Mom for some reason god has put my boss Harold Degruy on my heart. I ask that you and others join me in prayer for him, his family (mainly his oldest son Chris who is having some problems of his own and is in need of our prayers), and the business which happens to be my livelihood. I don’t know what exactly we are to be praying for but I do know god is pressing me to do so. I couldn’t figure out how to put this on your blog so I’m sending this to you this way I would appreciate it if you add it to your prayer request.

Thanks

Dear King’s Way Family and Friends,

Our current Sunday morning message series, “Deal, or No Deal” challenges us all to contemplate sacrifice for the cause of Christ. Please pray for the family of some of our first pioneer missionaries in Guatemala who today were martyred. Below is an email from our Spanish Church pastor, Rusty.

Hello All,

Tears come easier than words right now. My dear brother and son in the faith Jose Sanchez and his co-pastor Elias were assassinated this evening for the cause of Christ. As I write this Jose's oldest son Alberto is standing guard over their bodies. Jose is a martyr.
He left behind a wife ( Marisol) and five children.

We have had the holy and sacred honor of being part of his team. I am overwhelmed with the reality that we have engaged in a battle of eternal consequences. We are not involved in a project but rather a cause - a cause that is costly - a cause that is worth it!!!! Please be praying over these days.

I am so proud of you guys. I am glad to be in this cause with each of you. My prayer is that God would burn in our hearts the reality of what we have witnessed and provoke us to stand up for Christ and the cause for which Jose and Elias gave their lives.

As I have more information I will let you know.

In for Life,
Rusty

As you pray for these families and the continuing work of spreading the gospel in South America, please consider that the cause we have signed onto is worth our sacrifice. In the words of a time-tested hymn… “love so amazing, so divine…demands my life, my soul, my all”

May God be with you and your family

Prayer For David

Thanks so much for adding me to your prayer warrior list! Please add my son, David (21) to your prayers. He was horribly wounded as a child by a family member and he refuses to let his wall down and let the healing love of Christ in. He is self-medicating with drugs and alcohol, and needs intercession. Please send your prayer requests my way also! I would love to partner with you in intercession. I agree - God had us meet for a reason!
Love in Christ,
Jan

Let's Continue to Pray for Mattie and Her Family

Bonnie,

This touches home, over a month ago I took my pet dog Mattie who I have had for 12 years now, to the vet for an ear infection. While checking her ear the vet found a lump by her rectal. The vet suggested I take Mattie to a Specialist to get a second option but from what he felt, and x-rays there was nothing we could do for her and he really didn’t want to say anything till I took her to a Specialist. Well, I took her across the lake to Louisiana Veterinary Specialists Hospital and they ran test all day on my girl and sent off the biopsy to LSU for results. Three days later I got the results and yes, I was told she only had 3-6 months to live and there was nothing that could be done to remove the tumor or to treat it to make it go away.
All we could do is give Mattie something for inflammation so that she has no pain while going through this. This was probably the worst news Al and I have ever gotten as we think of Mattie as one of our children. Al and I brought Mattie last Tuesday for her 30 days check up to see if the tumor was growing faster or maybe had slowed down with the medication that we were giving her. Now keep in mind the medication CAN NOT MAKE THE TUMOR DISAPEAR NOR SHRINK THE TUMOR. The medication was just in hopes to buy us more time with Mattie by slowing down the tumor. Anyway, I had everyone and anyone praying for Mattie and at this point for Al and me and to give us strength to get through all of this. Well, the vet checked, and checked, without saying anything and I was getting so nervous that he was going to say it is now time to put her down as it has grown faster then we thought but instead he said “There must be some powerful prayers going on for this girl, because the tumor has shrunk to 1/3 the size of what it was 30 days ago”. Now, again we were not giving Mattie anything that could make the tumor shrink nor was there anything anyone could do. We had gotten 2nd. Options and even went as far as having the bio be sent to LSU for research….a little costly but I have pet insurance so it could have been worst.
It is nothing but a miracle that Mattie is better, the tumor has not gone away, and we go back in 30 days to see where we stand but for now it is 1/3 the size it was when they gave her 3-6 months and I am praying to have the six months so that she is here for this Christmas. Now I would not mind the illness go away and I have her here for a couple more years, but I do know that Mattie being 12 now doesn’t give her much more years…..and that I understand, I am just hoping to get through these last months with the holidays so that I can enjoy my time with her. I can so relate to the lost of a pet as we are so uncertain with Mattie right now and these pass months have been harder on Al and I then if we have lost a family member.

I just wanted to share the POWER OF PRAYER.

Take care

Prayer For A Special Friend

Prayer for Frank Sampere and Roy Hollyfield

Please pray for the leader of my Tues night bible study group Frank Sampere. He was admitted to the hospital today with irregular heartbeat. He will have an angiogram tomorrow morning. He already has a pacemaker. He is in his early 70's .... is a wonderful godly man .... a church elder ...... and humble teacher .... and I've grown to love him dearly.

Stand in agreement for discernment for all doctors, nurses, etc. who come in contact with him, for no complications with the procedure, and for "no weapon formed against him shall prosper"! He still has much to do for God's glory!

Pray for Roy Hollyfield who works with me. He had a triple bypass surgery and is now having numbness in his face, arm, and shins. Also for his daughter who I believe is in her twenties or so and was recently diagnosed with Type I Diabetes.

Prayer For Solomon

Dearest God Almighty I am coming to you tonight with the request that although Solomon is a dog that you will heal the problems in his (joints) in his leg that causes him to limp due to the discomfort. It seems that he is suffering from some sort of disorder and that if you don’t heal him that he may have to be put to sleep as a result of it.

Lord, Father, Jennie and Jerry’s hearts are right, as we know that this is a test of their faith as trails are coming against them because they have made a commitment to follow you. We come to you as a family and we ask you Dear Lord to move this mountain. With faith even as little as a mustard seed we believe that we will see fruit and that you will honor our request. For we know that all things work together for Your good and for those who love you Lord. Your glory will shine from our hearts as a testimony so that others will see your everlasting love.

Your word says to ask believing that you will honor my family’s request. We ask this father praying that it will be your will that Solomon will continue to live a long healthy life free from pain as Jennie and Jerry’s pet.

Matthew 21:22 (New International Version)
"If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."

Prayer for Charyn (Sharon)

I am asking for prayer for my sister, Charyn(Sharon). She has medical problems and is meeting with Social Security for help tomorrow. She has not been able to work since January and they need the help. She is not able to hardly walk since she lost mobilty in her leg and arm on her right side and it has not returned. The doctors have not been able to pin-point the problem. They ruled out every thing from stroke to MS. Every test comes up negative. She is scheduled to see a specialist in
Dallas if they approve the SS. Her insurance will not pay for this specialist because it is not on her network plan and it is very expensive. We are praying for her to get the help she needs for both physical and finacial needs. Thank you all and God bless. Love, Cathy

Please Pray For Sam

Background Story
Our son Sam is a wonderful young man who is 8 years old. He will be 9 in January. He is going into the 3rd grade in Reynoldsburg , Ohio . Sam had been having some pain in his right knee most of this summer (2009). As the pain increased we realized that something might be wrong and we made an appointment for him to see an Orthopedist on 8/10/09. At this doctors appointment an X-ray was done of Sam's leg/knee and it showed that there was a mass that the doctor believed to be cancerous. Samuel went into the hospital just a few days later for a series of tests. He received a cat scan, MRI, and also a full body scan. Our family met with the pediatric oncologist the following day and Samuel was diagnosed with a type of cancer called Osteosarcoma (stage 4). The cancer is in his right knee and it has also spread to both of his lungs. This is an agressive type of cancer and it will be treated with agressive forms of chemo. We are asking everyone to please lift up our litle boy Samuel Gordon Bish in prayer. We pray for healing!! We serve a mighty God and we know that HE can heal Sam if that is his will for Sam's life. Please be prayer warriors along with our family as Sam starts this very difficult journey in his young life.

Prayers Shawls Received During Peru Mission/The Shoe Man

The mission was indeed successful. We saw 485 patients, supplying treatments, medication, clothing and prayers. The Peruvian people are so thankful for all that we do. Attached are pictures of two of those receiving your shawls. I took them with my camera. The first one is a missionary couple. They were so happy to be selected. The second is a mother and her baby. The shawls and the people who received them were prayed over. (Thanks Margaret for assisting me with my mission of distributing shawls created to honor God and offer hope through the Prayer Shawl Ministry).

The Shoe Man
I showered and shaved............. I adjusted my tie.
I got there and sat............... In a pew just in time.
Bowing my head in prayer.......... As I closed my eyes.
I saw the shoe of the man next to me..... Touching my own. I sighed.
With plenty of room on either side....... I thought, 'Why must our soles touch?'
It bothered me, his shoe touching mine... But it didn't bother him much.
A prayer began: 'Our Father'............. I thought, 'This man with the shoes has no pride.
They're dusty, worn, and scratched. Even worse, there are holes on the side!'
'Thank You for blessings,' the prayer went on.
The shoe man said............... A quiet 'Amen.'
I tried to focus on the prayer....... But my thoughts were on his shoes again.
Aren't we supposed to look our best when walking through that door?
'Well, this certainly isn't it,' I thought, Glancing toward the floor.
Then the prayer was ended........... And the songs of praise began.
The shoe man was certainly loud..... Sounding proud as he sang.
His voice lifted the rafters........ His hands were raised high.
The Lord could surely hear the shoe man's voice from the sky.
It was time for the offering...... and what I threw in was steep.
I watched as the shoe man reached.... into his pockets so deep.
I saw what was pulled out............ what the shoe man put in.
Then I heard a soft 'clink' as when silver hits tin.
The sermon really bored me......... to tears, and that's no lie.
It was the same for the shoe man...for tears fell from his eyes.
At the end of the service...... as is the custom here.
We must greet new visitors and show them all good cheer.
But I felt moved somehow................ and wanted to meet the shoe man.
So after the closing prayer......... I reached over and shook his hand.
He was old and his skin was dark..... and his hair was truly a mess.
But I thanked him for coming......... for being our guest.
He said, 'My names' Charlie............ I'm glad to meet you, my friend.'
There were tears in his eyes........ but he had a large, wide grin.
'Let me explain,' he said.......... wiping tears from his eyes.
'I've been coming here for months.... and you're the first to say 'Hi.''
'I know that my appearance.........is not like all the rest”.
'But I really do try.................to always look my best.'
'I always clean and polish my shoes..before my very long walk’.
'But by the time I get here.........They're dirty and dusty, like chalk.'
My heart filled with pain.......... and I swallowed to hide my tears.
As he continued to apologize........ for daring to sit so near.
He said, 'When I get here...........I know I must look a sight”.
'But I thought if I could touch you..then maybe our souls might unite.'
I was silent for a moment........... Knowing whatever was said.
Would pale in comparison... I spoke from my heart, not my head.
'Oh, you've touched me,' I said......and taught me, in part”;
'That the best of any man............is what is found in his heart.'
The rest, I thought,.................. this shoe man will never know.
Like just how thankful I really am...that his dirty old shoe touched my soul.
(Thanks Dan for forwarding this to me today).

Lord Jesus you are the only one who truly knows their needs. I ask you to shine your face upon them and that whatever misfortune that they are experiencing be turned around for good and not for man's glory but yours so that others can see your love and the power of your hands. May they feel your presence on them like never before and a peace that goes beyond comprehension flooding their soul.

Leslie - Surgery on Wednesday

Bonnie,

One of my good friends (Leslie) is going in the hospital Wednesday to have her Thyroid removed. I ask the you keep her in your prayers. She was really sick years ago, and from her having kemo, it seemed to have brought on cancer of the Thyroid. The doctors say this is not unusual. Anyway, Leslie and all who know her are concerned about this surgery because it is a very serious one….as most surgeries. Anyway, I ask that you please pray that God keep Leslie under his watch while in surgery this Wednesday and bring her back to a speedy recovery.

Take care,

Lisa Volpi

A tribute to my sister Debbie

Sister, we've been there through life's sorrow and pain
But together we have always endured the strain
We've argued and bickered and made each other mad
But if you weren't my sister, life would be so sad
We've cried till we laughed and laughed till we cried
Sometimes for no reason we didn't even know why
When we're not together our bond is just as strong
Because we are sisters we know when something is wrong
We've whispered our deepest secrets only sisters could share
I love my sister dearly because she really cares
So whether we are together or we are far apart
Debbie, you're my sister, my friend and forever in my heart.

Pray for Bill Farris Dealing With After-Effects of Treatments For 18 Months Now Since Cancer Surgery

Your timing is interesting. I was just writing to you to ask for prayer, as I have been dealing with the after-effects of treatments for 18 months now. I was debating with myself on whether I should send it, not because I don't need/want prayer, but because I gave a fairly long explanation of what I am dealing with daily, and it just kind of sounds like complaining. I don't believe in complaining, as it never solves the problem.
